My name is Alexander Gorodetsky and I am a practicing Licensed Professional Counselor in Washington DC.
I am a psychotherapist with more than 30 years of experience in the Ukraine, Israel and United States, and I am fluent in English, Russian, Ukrainian and Hebrew. I earned my B.A. and M.A. in Psychology from Kharkov State University and Kiev Taras Shevchenko State University in 1985.
Prior to my arrival in Israel, I spent 6 years (1984-1990) in the Ukraine working intensively as a Clinical Psychologist at a Psychosexual Clinic for Couples, and The Psychiatric Hospital, as a Psychologist at Family Consulting Center, as well as a School Psychologist (The 1st in the Ukraine).
While in Israel (1990-2003), after completing my graduate study in Clinical Psychology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, I joined a mental health center to begin my practicum in Clinical Psychology.
I was regularly engaged in psychotherapy. Whether in a Family and Couple Therapy Course, or during Clinical Psychological, and School Psychological Specializations, my top priorities were seeing clients, learning about different psychotherapeutic approaches, and providing psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Moreover, while in Jerusalem, two clinical experiences left significant and lasting impressions on me. The first was using the self-psychology approach in treating patients with schizophrenia. The second experience was working with victims of terrorist attacks.
Since becoming a Licensed Psychologist in Israel in 1997, I established a psychotherapeutic private practice.
After coming to the U.S. in 2003, I have joined a number of professional psychological organizations and in particular have worked on the Program Committee of the 10th Annual Meeting of the ISPS (The International Society for The Psychological Treatments of The Schizophrenias and Other Psychoses).
I value continuing education, and for the past 12 years in America I have sought out and attended a number of conferences, workshops and study groups based on a psychodynamic approach. I participated in a Psychoanalytic Fellowship Program, and in a Relational Perspectives Institute (ICP&P).
I have been working in private practice in the Washington Metro Area for almost a decade, providing individual, couple, and family psychotherapy.
Since my extensive psychotherapeutic experience includes work in the Ukraine, Israel and the U.S. I am providing psychotherapy for clients speaking English, Russian, Ukrainian and Hebrew.
